CUATRO PLUMAS LODGE

SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO, ARGENTINA

Duck, dove, pigeon & perdiz

Cuatro Plumas Lodge
Outfitter and long-time friend, Dickie Miles’ program in Santiago del Estero Province offers the ultimate in Argentina mixed-bag bird hunting. You can find great duck hunting elsewhere in Argentina, great dove hunting elsewhere and even great pigeon shooting elsewhere. But NOWHERE ELSE can you find vast populations of ALL of those gamebirds, not to mention top-rate perdiz hunting and dog work. Hence the program name, Cuatro Plumas. All this world-class gunning, all accessed from the same lodge.

The shooting

Having guided duck hunters for more than 30 years, Dickie Miles is THE Argentine expert on “old-school” classic decoy duck hunting. His hunts are crafted in the authentic style Americans enjoyed in the 40s and 50s—all in untamed and unhunted wild surroundings, but minutes away from the comfort of his lodge. Santiago del Estero Province is home to an amazing variety of ducks, including cinnamon, Brazilian, silver and ring-necked teal, brown and white-cheeked pintails, rosy-billed pochards and many others. Shallow-water and dry blinds are accessed via vehicle, motorboat, jon boat, horses and occasionally even walking from the lodge. Birds are abundant and limits are liberal.

Santiago del Estero Province bisects a line directly from the mega-centers of dove hunting in Argentina—Cordoba in the country’s middle, to Salta in the far northwest. The dove population in Santiago del Estero is also mind-boggling and is exploding year by year as the Cordoba birds continue their decades-long trending to the north. Here, in addition to the doves, the vast numbers of wild pigeons are actually in direct competition for feeding fields with the doves. Many clients come here during the non-duck hunting months just to access the amazing gunning for non-migratory spotted and picazuro pigeons. Perdiz are found in all points of the compass and Miles has a top-notch set of English Pointers, German wirehairs and German shorthairs.

CUATRO PLUMAS IS A BIRD HUNTING DESTINATION LIKE NO OTHER, AND IS REWRITING THE STORY BOOKS WITH TALES OF THE GREATEST HUNTS OF ALL TIME.

Accommodations

Dickie’s lodge is a classic ranch headquarters estancia with six air-conditioned bedrooms. The property is relatively new and combines comfortable country estate living with all the modern conveniences. Of course, the most outstanding feature of the lodge is the signature service, where every need is met by staff with great attention to detail. Groups are limited to eight guns, to assure the best of service and the most abundant gunning opportunities.
